Info for families
Dismissal Plans
Let us know your child’s plans for after school here. You only need to submit this form once unless your plans change 🙂 And if your plans do change, simply re-submit the form and we will update our chart.

The school day starts at 8:10 and ends at 2:30. We will be in the upper big yard by the climbers for both drop off and dismissal. If you child takes the bus, please make sure they have a tag on their backpack. You can get a tag from Mona in the main office.

Please look for notices and your child’s homework assignments every day. We will start assigning homework later this month. Usually, your child’s homework assignments will be in the home folder, Monday through Thursday.
Checking the folder every day keeps you up-to-date with what is happening in class and keeps you informed about school issues.

We start the year by reading at home for at least twenty minutes. Children can be read to or do the reading themselves (out loud or not – as long as they are comfortable). Sometimes, families share the reading – taking turns reading out loud. The important thing is that children are absorbed in books every day for a sustained period of time.
After we get comfortable with the home reading routine, we will add about 10 minutes of writing, math or other work to the daily reading. All of this work will be directly related to the work that was done in class recently.
We will send a packet home at the beginning of each week. Students should do one page in the packet each evening, but they can choose which page to do on which evening. The packet should go back and forth between home and school in the blue folder each day.

As we mentioned in our summer letter, we have gotten everything your child will need for the classroom. If you can donate toward these costs we would be grateful. We suggest $75, but please donate what makes sense for your family. You can do this through the PTA.

Thank you so much for providing healthy snacks for our class. We understand that food prices are high right now and you are not obligated to provide snack. If you can do it, thank you so much. We eat snack every day at about 9:30 a.m. You may bring in the weeks’ snacks all at once or daily – whichever is easier for you. Good choices are crackers, corn chips, popcorn, pretzels, fruit (grapes, apples, clementines, etc), cheese, fig newtons, dry cereal, carrots or other easy to eat veggies.  We have children with nut allergies this year, so please keep this in mind when it is your family’s turn to bring in snack.

Please know that you are in no way obligated to celebrate birthdays; it is up to your family to decide what is best. If your child is excited to celebrate with their classmates, feel free to send in a treat. Please remember that our classroom must stay tree nut free. Please do not send in candy, party favors, candles or balloons.

We do not have a sink or drinking fountain in the classroom and would like children to drink water as often as they’d like without lots of excursions to the hallway. We ask that you send in a water bottle for your child to keep at school and to bring on class trips. Please make sure to label your child’s bottle.

Our first day for swimming is Friday, September 30. Swimmers will take a bus to Asphalt Green on East 90th Street in Manhattan. The first session will be an assessment for all students. After the first day, the instructors at Asphalt Green will determine the scope and shape of the program going forward.
For swimmers (that is everyone on the first day), it is best to come to school with a bathing suit already on underneath clothes. Pack underwear for changing into after swimming. Towels are not needed. If your child likes to wear goggles, pack them. It is very helpful if your child has a home lunch because the buses sometimes arrive back at school after the usual lunch period.Â
